Love Big or Go Home

Yesterday morning I asked my father, “What do you want to read in the bible today?”

He said, “Psalm 23, let’s take it apart and go over each section thoroughly.”

As we read through together we paused at my cup runneth over, and I stopped and asked him, “What makes your cup runneth over?”

And he said: All of you.

You who send text messages, leave voicemails or send up requests to God on his behalf.

You who has sent a meal or homemade cookies. (or new lazy-boys 😉

You who encourage him on facebook and make him smile by your comments.

You who think of him and wish him well.

You who ask about him continuously.

He is in awe of each and every one of you. And so am I.

He talked about all the people he is grateful for and feels indebted to: His siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, friends of Bill W. (who btw rock our worlds! I’ve never seen such servant hearts!), his church family, the list goes on and on.

He looked at me with tears in his eyes and said, “They have come to my rescue.”

Oh friend, this statement has branded me and it won’t let me go, because this is the epitome of the gospel.

Galatians 6:2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

I can’t tell you the countless times I have watched our father come to someone’s rescue or carry their burden, including myself. He is the Good Samaritan that will pick up the person everyone else has stepped over, looked over and passed by.

Because you see, His Father Jesus Christ brought men and women into his life that came to His rescue and He never forgot it.

It’s just amazing how when you love others, it comes back to you full circle.

We do everything BIG in our family– our hair, outfits, laughter, loud voices.

But, this scripture today has me challenged and longing for more important things amplified in my life.

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Colossians 3:12-13

At the end of the day, let it be said if we did anything BIG, may it be our love for each other that spoke the loudest.

Love Big quote

Thank you friends for coming to our rescue and carrying us.

Your love and actions have spoken loud and clear, you have taught and inspired us by your example.

I will leave you with this, one of all my all time favorite quotes that my father’s sponsor Bill shared with me:

“I sought my soul, but my soul I could not see. I sought my God, but my God eluded me. I sought my brother and I found all three.”- William Blake

*Questions to ponder: Is there anyone you need to thank today for coming to your rescue? Are there people who come to mind that need help carrying a burden? Go love BIG. Feel free to share this on someone’s wall that carried you or is carrying you and thank them.
