Undone- A Story of Making Peace With An Unexpected Life {Book Review}

undone-1You know those books you can’t put down even though there is cleaning, laundry, cooking and work to be done?

The kind of book that you find yourself highlighting so much that most of the pages are fluorescent yellow?

The kind of book that finds you nodding in agreement, laughing one minute, crying the next and helps you realize you aren’t alone in your struggles?

That kind of book, is the book you need to read next, Undone by Michele Cushatt.

I met Michele last year at She Speaks.

First, I must tell you that this lady is one of the most gifted communicators I have ever had the privilege of hearing and her gift is just as evident in her writing.

She knows how to cut through the fluff and get right to the heart of the matter. And her humility? Her sweet spirit? Well, that’s just the cherry on top.

Her book is a memoir which takes you on her journey through cancer, divorce, remarrying, becoming a blended family and the challenges that go with it; to her wrestling with her faith and perfectionism.

This book was just what I needed at this time as I journey with my father through his cancer. Cancer takes you on a ride and has a way of being big and scary enough to rattle your faith and everything you thought you knew about Jesus.

I love this quote in the book: If I believe in only what I can see, manage, and control, sooner or later something will come along to rock my boat. Instead, I must secure my faith where it cannot be unmoored. In the one who controls the waves and whose peace runs so deep we can find a way to sleep in the storm. My faith belongs there with Him. That’s the secret sauce between panic and peace.

This book unravels you in a good way.

It showed me as Christians we need to quit being so afraid to admit when we are scared, or full of doubt. Sometimes life is just hard and scary and it’s ok to say that.

God can handle our fears and doubt.

This book is one of those books you will read again and again. Especially, when you are in need of a friend to take you by the hand and say, “me too.”

Order your copy today, I promise you won’t regret it.

You may not be able to get much “done” when you start reading Undone, but rest assured it will be time well spent.

At the end of the last page when you close the book, you are reminded that peace is possible, even in the middle of life’s craziest, unexpected storms.
